Ligurian cuisine is another highlight: pesto alla genovese is probably the most well-known dish, but there are also specialties like focaccia, trofie al pesto, fresh fish, and farinata, a chickpea flatbread. What is the best season to visit Liguria?

  • Spring (March-May): Spring is one of the best times to visit Liguria. Mild temperatures (15-22°C) make it perfect for hiking in the natural parks and along the trails of the Cinque Terre. It’s also a good time to visit Genoa and the coastal villages without the summer crowds.  
  • Summer (June-September): Summer is the ideal time to enjoy the beaches and sea of Liguria. Temperatures can reach 30°C, and places like Portofino, Sanremo, and the Cinque Terre fill with tourists. It’s also the perfect time for water sports and experiencing the nightlife of seaside resorts.  
  • Autumn (October-November): Autumn is a pleasant time to visit Liguria, with still mild temperatures (18-25°C) and fewer tourists compared to summer. It’s the season for local festivals and tastings, and the sea remains warm enough for swimming until the end of October.  
  • Winter (December-February): Winter in Liguria is mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below 10°C, especially along the coast. It’s a quiet time to visit cities and villages and enjoy sunny days exploring coastal trails. Sanremo and Genoa offer cultural events and Christmas markets that make the atmosphere particularly welcoming.
